Scott Morrison, the prime minister of Australia, is visiting Singapore on June 10th for a leaders meeting with Prime minister Lee Hsien. As per MFA, they are going to hold a virtual joint press conference.
Mr. Morrison’s visit to Singapore will be the first official visit by any foreign leader since the beginning of the Coronavirus-induced pandemic. And this will be the sixth meeting between Australia and Singapore.
This meeting is conducted under the Singapore – Australia comprehensive strategic partnership for the prime ministers of Singapore and Australia. Under this strategic partnership, prime ministers of both countries will meet annually and discuss bilateral cooperation and talk about regional and international developments.
Australia and Singapore are also in talks regarding forming a travel bubble, which will allow the residents to travel to both th countries without underground quarantine. They are also discussing mutual recognition of vaccination certificates so that traveling for business travelers and students can resume.
Though Singapore has opened its border for other countries, including Australia, they would prefer to form a common corridor, as Australia last year closed down its borders for international travelers. Even now, they have very limited international arrivals.
