JAMMU & KASHMIR – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday described the inauguration of major infrastructure projects in Jammu and Kashmir as a defining moment in the region’s development, asserting that India is now connected by rail from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
Launching the Chenab Bridge and Anji Khad Bridge, part of the ambitious Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Line Project, the Prime Minister said the bridges symbolize progress and prosperity, bringing remote regions closer and boosting connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar. “This rail network is not only a feat of engineering but a beacon of the new, empowered Jammu and Kashmir,” he stated.
Highlighting the strategic and economic significance of the projects, Modi declared that the bridges are gateways to prosperity for the region, opening up opportunities for trade, tourism, and integration with the national economy.
Reiterating India’s resilience, the Prime Minister condemned cross-border terrorism, citing the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, which targeted the tourism sector—vital to Kashmir’s economy. He accused Pakistan of acting against humanity and sabotaging livelihoods. “Through Operation Sindoor, we’ve sent a strong message. It is a reflection of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and India’s evolving defence capabilities, now being discussed globally,” he remarked.
In a push for economic nationalism, Modi encouraged citizens to choose Made in India products, calling it an act of national service.
During his visit, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone and dedicated to the nation various development initiatives worth over ₹46,000 crore, including a new medical college in Jammu, aimed at improving healthcare infrastructure.
He also flagged off Vande Bharat trains, further enhancing regional mobility and connectivity. Concluding his address, Modi congratulated the people of Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that this transformation signals the dawn of a new era marked by growth, unity, and self-reliance.
