Nepal–India Leaders Reaffirm Partnership in Historic First Call

KATHMANDU—Prime Minister of Nepal, Smt. Sushila Karki, held her first official telephone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi following her appointment as Nepal’s first woman Prime Minister.

During the talks, Prime Minister Modi congratulated Karki on her historic role and extended warm greetings on the occasion of Nepal’s National Day (Constitution Day). He also conveyed heartfelt condolences for the recent loss of lives during youth-led protests, assuring that India stands in solidarity with Nepal at this critical juncture.

Prime Minister Karki expressed gratitude and warmly congratulated Prime Minister Modi on his 75th birthday. Emphasizing the aspirations of the new Gen-Z movement, she underlined that elections remain the government’s top priority, pledging a focused agenda on accountable, responsive, and corruption-free governance.

Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed India’s continued support in alignment with Nepal’s priorities and welcomed Karki’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions. Both leaders highlighted the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties between the two nations, stressing that people-to-people engagement will remain central to future cooperation.

The two Prime Ministers concluded their discussion with a shared resolve to advance the strong momentum of bilateral partnership for the mutual benefit of the people of Nepal and India.
