Malaysia’s Muhyiddin Denies Mahathir’s Explosive Claim of Stealing Party Funds

PETALING JAYA – Bersatu Malaysia president Muhyiddin Yassin categorically rejected accusations from elder statesman and former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad on Saturday, dismissing viral claims that he pilfered party funds and stashed them at home as “baseless speculation” fueled by misinformation.

In a strongly worded statement, Muhyiddin, also Perikatan Nasional coalition chairman and ex-premier, insisted all party contributions flow transparently into official accounts managed by the treasurer-general. “I have never stolen party funds,” he declared, urging Mahathir, as a “statesman,” to have sought clarification directly rather than airing unverified allegations from “irresponsible parties.”The row stems from a viral two-minute video of Mahathir at a Johor Bersatu Youth meeting on Dec 12, where he purportedly leveled the charges. Johor Bersatu Youth labeled the clip manipulated by mischief-makers.

Despite the feud, Muhyiddin affirmed respect for the 100-year-old Mahathir, citing past collaboration on Malay unity efforts and their close ties. He ruled out legal action: “I continue to respect Tun Mahathir as an elder.”The public spat underscores persistent rifts within Malaysia’s opposition circles ahead of future polls.
