KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia announced on July 5 that it will impose provisional anti-dumping duties ranging from 3.86% to 57.90% on selected iron and steel imports from China, South Korea, and Vietnam. The duties target imports of galvanised iron or steel coils and sheets, following a preliminary determination from an ongoing anti-dumping investigation initiated on February 6, the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) said in a statement.
“The government finds that there is sufficient evidence that the importation of the subject goods is being dumped and that the investigation should be continued,” the ministry noted. According to MITI, the provisional measures will take effect from July 7 and may remain in force for up to 120 days, pending a final determination by November 3.
The move comes as part of Malaysia’s broader effort to protect its domestic iron and steel industry from unfair trade practices and to ensure a level playing field for local manufacturers.
