Lata Mangeshkar: Immortal golden voice echoes in hearts of her admirers

The demise of Lata ji has left people in tears. A day before her demise was Saraswati Puja.  It seems as if Godess Saraswati herself had come this time to take away her dearest daughter. Death is not always a matter of mourning. Death is the completion of life. Lata ji’s life has been beautiful, and her death has also been equally beautiful. Very few get such a beautiful and religious life of 93 years. 

Nearly five generations have listened to her. Her voice is mesmerizing and everyone has deep regards for her from the bottom of the heart. In 1929, she was born in a Maharashtrian family in Indore. Deenanath Mangeshkar, her father, was a classical singer and theater actor. Her maternal grandmother taught her folk songs. Her first music lesson was given to her by her father. When she was only 5 years old, she started to work as an actress in her father’s musical plays. 

Her father, during his last days, gave her the responsibility of taking care of four younger sisters and brothers. She was only 13 years old. Lata ji devoted her whole life to all four of them. And today when she is gone, her family is one of the most respected reputed families of India. 

India has been living with the songs of Lata ji for the last 80 years. People remember her songs In joy, in sadness, in devotion to God, in patriotism, in love. One peculiar thing was that Lata ji did not wear slippers while singing. Singing was like worshiping God for her. If someone went to her house, she used to show her the picture of her parents and the temple built at her home.She has sung more than 50 thousand songs of every Rasa / Bhava in about 36 languages. Her first and last song is a devotional song.

She has made beautiful contributions to the Indian music industry. She has received honorific titles such as Voice of the Millennium, Nightingale of India and Queen of Melody. She has received several honors and accolades throughout her career. She has been awarded the Bharat Ratna, Dadasaheb Phalke award and National Order of the Legion of Honor. As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, the Government of India has announced 2 days of state mourning. Her beautiful voice is immortal. Her golden voice will echo in the hearts of her fans forever.
