KL-Bangkok Cargo Rail Service Set to Launch This Year, Passenger Route in the Works

PETALING JAYA – A cargo rail service between Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok is slated to launch later this year to boost regional trade, with Malaysia’s Cabinet and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim fully backing the initiative, Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook announced.

In addition to freight, Loke revealed that plans are underway to revive a direct passenger train service between the two capitals, which could enhance tourism and regional connectivity to countries like Laos, China, and Central Asia. The 15- to 16-hour journey promises scenic views and a unique overland travel experience for both local and international tourists.
