In the beginning of this year, the International Convention Centre in Sydney – a vast waterside conference and convention centre in the city centre – printed advertisements in order to attempt to fill around 1,000 jobs in places like catering, security and hospitality. The centre, like other prominent employers in Australia that have to fully rely on international workers, had been working hard to discover enough staff after business went down following the lifting of Covid-19 hindrances. At times, the centre appealed its office workers to support in cleaning and wait on tables, and it overhauled its hiring practices so that it could bring applicants jobs within 24 hours of them applying.
