HANOI – North Vietnam is preparing for more heavy rain following severe flooding and landslides that have resulted in at least three deaths in Hanoi, local authorities reported on August 1. In addition to the fatalities in the capital, another seven people have died in other northern provinces due to floods and landslides earlier this week, according to ThanhtraVietNam.
The region is at risk for further flooding and landslides, with heavy rain forecasted for northern Vietnam. However, meteorologists from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting suggest that the rainfall might gradually ease by the night of August 2.
A week after tropical storm Prapiroon hit the region, parts of Hanoi remain submerged. Rising waters have damaged dikes surrounding the city, leading to numerous landslides, as reported by VnExpress. Hanoi authorities have ordered the evacuation of thousands of residents in some parts of the city. Many residents in flooded areas are now relying on boats for transportation, according to Vietnam Television.
Local officials and emergency services continue to work on rescue and relief efforts, while also preparing for potential further damage as heavy rain persists. The situation underscores the ongoing challenges posed by extreme weather in the region.
