LONDON – French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have reached a consensus regarding the extent of freedoms Ukraine should have in using Western-supplied weapons in its defense against Russia’s invasion. The two leaders indicated that moving forward, there would be fewer restrictions on the Ukrainian military striking targets deep within Russian territory.
This agreement marks a significant shift in Western policy, potentially allowing Ukraine greater operational flexibility in its military strategy. However, despite this alignment on Ukraine, Macron and Scholz continue to face considerable disagreements on other key issues.
