Face masks will no longer be compulsory to wear on public vehicles and at healthcare facilities from July 5, declared Malaysia’s Health Minister Zaliha Mustafa on Thursday. She said that people were still using face masks a lot on public transport. Dr Zaliha also said that those who test positive for Covid-19 will still have to wear face masks at healthcare centers such as hospitals and private clinics. “Face masks should be worn by people such as senior citizens, who have low immunity and chronic diseases, and pregnent woman in public areas,” she said in a statement.
“People with respiratory problems should also don masks to protect others from getting infected.” The relaxed measures are connected with the World Health Organisation (WHO) saying in May that Covid-19 was no longer a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC), the health minister said, by considering how the cases were getting less in Malaysia.
