Empowering Nepal’s Youth with Scientific Knowledge: Sarc Foundation’s Educational Journey in Uttarakhand

The Students from Sarc Foundation Nepal embarked on an enlightening three-day educational journey to India, where they had the opportunity to explore the realms of biotechnology, science, and innovation. This remarkable educational tour opened new horizons for these young minds and expanded their understanding of cutting-edge technology.

On their first day in India, the students visited the Uttarakhand Biotechnology Council Haldi, where they delved into the world of biotechnology. Dr. Sanjay Kumar, the Director of the Council, provided insights into the latest research techniques and emphasized the significance of biotechnology in today’s scientific landscape. The primary goal of the program was to cultivate interest and awareness among  young individuals about the field of biotechnology.

Dr. Manind Mohan, a scientist, shared knowledge about the testing of drinking water quality and shed light on the current quality status of water sources in the Terai region. Dr. Mohan stressed the importance of water conservation alongside maintaining water quality for a healthy life. Additionally, Dr. Sumit Purohit introduced the students to the technique of cultivating kiwi and walnut seedlings through tissue culture methods. Dr. Kanchan Karki illuminated the students about the practical applications of biosensors by explaining DNA separation.

On the second day of their educational journey, a group of female students from Nepal had the privilege of visiting the Zonal Science Center in Dehradun. The students were treated to a guided tour of the center and experienced a 3-D film screening and a fascinating planetarium show.

The students were also fortunate to attend a guest lecture by Dr. GS Rawat, a renowned scientist working at UCOST (Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology). The lecture, titled ‘Science and We,’ covered various scientific topics. The highlight of the day was a captivating ‘Science Demonstration and Liquid Nitrogen Show’ organized by GS Rautela, Advisor at Science City.

On the second day of their visit, the students were treated to engaging presentations on activities related to Artificial Intelligence, Robotics lab, Hydrophonics lab, and Brain Science lab, broadening their understanding of the evolving frontiers of science and technology.

During the two-day tour, Prof (Dr) Durgesh Pant, the Director General of Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST), offered valuable guidance to the students regarding their career prospects and opportunities in the field of science.

Laxman Basnet, CEO of Sarc Foundation Nepal, expressed his gratitude to the entire team at Biotechnology Pantnagar and the Regional Science Center in Dehradun. He emphasized that the knowledge and experiences gained during the three-day educational tour would undoubtedly serve as a milestone in the students’ careers, paving the way for them to achieve their rightful place in the future of science and technology.
