Dorcas Tang: Painting a Path to Climate Awareness

At just 21 years old, Dorcas Tang is proving that creativity can be a powerful force for change. A climate activist and artist from Singapore, Dorcas has made a name for herself by using art to translate the urgency of the climate crisis into messages that are both accessible and emotionally resonant. In a world where environmental issues can often feel distant or overwhelming, she brings clarity, color, and heart to the conversation.

Dorcas’s journey began in childhood, where her love for nature and passion for art blossomed side by side. Surrounded by urban landscapes, she turned to drawing as a way to express herself and make sense of the world. Over time, her creativity evolved into a powerful medium for activism, allowing her to explore how visual storytelling could bridge the gap between complex climate science and everyday understanding.

While studying design at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Dorcas deepened her focus on sustainability, community-centered design, and environmental architecture. It was here that she began to see how her artistic skills could serve a larger purpose. With this newfound vision, she launched her Instagram platform, @earthtodorcas, where she creates playful yet informative illustrations about climate change, sustainable living, and environmental resilience.

Her work does more than raise awareness. It sparks connection. Through thoughtful and relatable imagery, she engages a wide audience, especially younger generations, encouraging them to reflect on their relationship with the planet and take meaningful steps toward sustainability.

One of Dorcas’s most impactful contributions has been through her involvement in Our Climate Story, a community-based arts project that invites people to share personal narratives about climate change. By turning individual stories into collective art, she fosters empathy and a shared sense of responsibility. Her leadership and creativity have also earned international recognition. Dorcas was nominated to represent Singapore on the Youth Empowerment for Climate Actions Platform (YECAP), an initiative supported by the United Nations Development Programme.

The path of advocacy has not always been easy. Like many young climate leaders, Dorcas has wrestled with the emotional toll of confronting global issues and the challenge of making abstract problems feel personal and urgent. Yet, she remains grounded in the belief that art has the power to move hearts and minds. Her work reminds us that climate action is not just about policies and science. It is also about storytelling, empathy, and human connection.

Dorcas Tang stands as a beacon of hope and creativity in the climate movement. Through her illustrations, community work, and unwavering commitment, she is helping people see the planet—and their role in protecting it—with new eyes. Her story proves that even the quiet strokes of a paintbrush can make waves in the fight for a more sustainable world.
