Depleting water resources and increasing needs

A recent study is claiming that new dams won’t just be enough to fulfill the requirement of water. Satellite information reveals that the volume of water in 7,245 reservoirs across the world fell from 1999 to 2018, regardless of a 28 cubic kilometer yearly expanding in capacity, this is explained in a study wrote by Nature Communications. The rising temperature, climate change is one of the reasons. Also the unending demand and new constructions are pressurizing the planet’s resources.

The International Hydropower Association said last week that new dams and reservoirs played a “crucial mitigating role in an era of increasing climate extremes”, making it easier to regulate water flows. As the climate gets more strained, we will require more, not less, water infrastructure, with the benefit of much-required low-carbon power. China has also claimed its better ability to store and release water on the upper reaches of the Yangtze has removed floods and droughts.
