Brunei Sultan Returns Home After Recovery in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR –  Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah has returned to his homeland after a brief period of rest and recovery in Malaysia, where he was hospitalized due to fatigue. According to an official statement released on June 3, the 78-year-old monarch was accompanied by his consort, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha, upon his return.

The Sultan was initially admitted to the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur last week while attending a summit of Southeast Asian leaders. Following his discharge over the weekend, he remained in Malaysia for a short rest period.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who met the Sultan along with his wife, Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, confirmed on social media that His Majesty is in good health and recovering well. Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah continues to serve in multiple top leadership roles in Brunei, including prime minister, defence minister, finance minister, foreign minister, and head of the armed forces.
