Brainstorming in Biotech Haldi, Uttarakhand, India on the quality and safety of water sources

Water is the source of life and without it, life can not be sustained. It is a very important part of everyday life. But water contamination and deteriorating quality of water is of major concern.  A training workshop on water quality and security of water sources of the state was organized in collaboration with Uttarakhand Biotechnology Council including State Council of Science and Technology (UCOST) and Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan at Biotech Department, Haldi.
The program took place under the guidance of Dr. Rajendra Doval, Director, Council of Biotechnology. The chief guest of the program, Dr. Veer Singh, former professor and Dean Communications of Pant University, described water as the greatest symbol of life. He said that water operates the energy system in humans, through which all metabolic activities work, so the quality and safety of water is very important.
Special guest Professor R.K. Srivastava said that water is a sign of good health. Therefore, it is necessary to save water. Workshop Coordinator and DAV PG associate professor Dr. Prashant Singh said that so far 10 water quality laboratories of the state have been given the status of NABL and the remaining 3 laboratories will soon be certified.
Water is one thing everyone needs from birth till death and contaminated water leads to various diseases and health issues.  Engineer of Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan, Rudrapur, Udham Singh Nagar, RK. Shrivastava threw detailed light on the quality check of drinking water of the district. Scientist Dr. Vikas Kandari and Archit Pandey trained the participants on all physico-chemical and biological parameters of water quality through a field testing kit. Dr. R.K. of Pant University, in his lecture said that it is necessary to protect water by treatment of wastewater so that better quality of water can be available to the citizens for drinking and domestic purposes.
Local coordinator Dr. Manindra Mohan Sharma, in his technical lecture described water as the basis of life and threw light on the water quality and microbial diversity of various water sources of Terai like tube wells, tap water, water cooler etc.
About 150 participants took part in this training. On this occasion, Dr. Prashant Singh honored the National President of Voice Asia, Kaushal Kumar and Priyanka Kulshrestha by giving them water testing kits. The program was conducted by Dr. Prashant Singh and vote of thanks by Amit Purohit. This educational training program has enlightened individuals regarding water quality and how contamination of water can be prevented. It has also raised awareness regarding various technical aspects which are generally not known to the common man. Efforts by Biotech Haldi are respectworthy and impressive.
