Lidia Thorpe, an Australian lawmaker has enforced allegations of being sexually harassed. She claims that she has been wrongly touched, has been listening to sexual comments on her, she felt she was getting dominated by powerful men. She says it is not a safe place for women to be a part of and work there. She was also threatened by the parliament to not expose them. Mr. Van is clearly saying that false allegations have been thrown on him. But, he couldn’t be a part of the liberal party anymore due to this serious matter that came across the public. Her experiences of sexual assault were being chased, angrily propositioned and wrongly touched.
She started fearing walking out of the office door and only when she could find the passage clear, she would go. She also said she was afraid to walk alone in the building and some other members have been going through the same but they wont commit and explain. Even a research in 2021 reveals that Australian parliaments are unsafe places for women and women have faced a lot of problems there. The man who has been accused has charged multiple journalists for reporting on the case and threatened to take her to the court. He denied the allegations, and in court pleaded that he is not guilty of anything like sexual intercourse without consent.
