A Geography teacher is encouraging children with creative ideas

Education is a tool that helps in creation of a better society. Largest disruption of the education system in human history has been created by the pandemic. But there are phenomenal teachers who are determined to help students continue their education in the most effective and efficient way possible.
One such teacher is Marina Kharitonashvili from Georgia-Tbilisi. She is a teacher of Geography. She also teaches a subject known as ‘core science of geography’, it is a more practical based subject. She is a creative and energetic teacher. She is also oriented to study innovation models.
As the pandemic started, physical classes were closed. She started to explore how she could make lessons more interesting which could motivate the students. So she decided to explain to kids about how they can conduct experiments at home. The kids would then conduct the experiments, record themselves and send them to her. She would then edit the videos and upload them to the YouTube channel. The videos received very positive feedback.
She has also established an ecotourism club at school called “LEOU”- Let’s Explore Our Universe. Members of this club are from different age groups. She asked her students to prepare videos about both Georgian and world country sightseeing, for example about protected areas, national parks, wonders of the world and so on. Club members started collecting information individually and as well as in groups. The amazing videos made by the members of the club were then posted to the club YouTube channel LEOU.
She also made a video herself on physical geographical description of Tbilisi. This video received huge attention from the Ministry of Education in Georgia. Her video inspired other teachers to record lessons and share with the students. Later on a cognitive webinar was held on the topic how to organize interesting online lessons from home.
Also during the pandemic in Georgia, the Ministry of Education started a new TV project called “TV SCHOOL”. Professional teachers of all subjects were invited to First national TV channel and she was selected as one of the geography teachers in this project. Unfortunately in some parts of Georgia, children don’t have access to technical resources like computers, mobile devices and access to the internet. That’s why this project is especially beneficial for them.
She is determined to teach students in the most fun and efficient manner even from home. Her interesting ideas increased the interest and engagement of students with the studies. She also inspired other teachers to record lessons and share with the students. Her work and efforts are applaudable.
