His mother began making and selling papads to keep the family afloat and Anand took to tutoring to support them. Yet even then, in the dim glow of oil lamps and amidst unpaid bills, his love for mathematics never dimmed.
He had once dreamed of walking the halls of Cambridge University, a dream cruelly stolen by poverty. The admission letter he received felt like a cruel joke from the universe. But instead of succumbing to bitterness, Anand turned his pain into purpose. Super 30, the program that would etch his name into history, was born in 2002. No glittering campus. No polished infrastructure. Just a rented room, chalkboards, borrowed books and an unshakable will to transform lives. Every year, 30 students, most from impoverished, rural, or marginalized backgrounds were given free lodging, food and rigorous coaching to crack one of the world’s toughest exams: the IIT-JEE.
But it wasn’t just coaching; it was healing. It was empowerment. For many of his students, Super 30 was their first taste of dignity and self-belief. He faced threats from private coaching mafias. He endured political pressure, financial strain and personal health battles—including a diagnosis of acoustic neuroma, a rare brain tumor that took much of his hearing. And still, he taught. Even when words were hard to hear, his mission was loud and clear.
Today, Anand Kumar stands at a different crossroads. While Super 30 continues to thrive, he is expanding his vision. In 2024, he launched an online education platform to reach students far beyond Bihar, ensuring quality education doesn’t remain a privilege of the wealthy. And in 2025, his dream school, founded on principles of holistic learning, character building and practical knowledge will open its doors. He doesn’t boast of titles. He doesn’t seek accolades. His classroom is his revolution. His chalk is his weapon. And his heart beats for every child who thinks dreams are out of reach.
