Confusion Over PN Info Chief Role as Radzi Jidin Chairs Meeting Without Formal Appointment

PETALING JAYA — Putrajaya MP Radzi Jidin has reportedly taken on the role of Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) information chief based on a verbal appointment from coalition chairman Muhyiddin Yassin, a party insider revealed. Speaking on condition of anonymity, the insider said the decision was conveyed informally during a PN leadership meeting in February, where Muhyiddin announced Radzi would be replacing Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

“There was no official letter issued, but Tan Sri (Muhyiddin) told everyone during the meeting that Radzi would take over the position,” the source said, adding that Radzi was instructed to begin coordinating the coalition’s information machinery immediately.

Despite the absence of a formal appointment letter, Radzi has begun performing duties as information chief — including chairing a recent meeting with the information heads of PN component parties. This move drew attention after Pasir Mas MP Ahmad Fadhli Shaari questioned Radzi’s authority to chair the session, noting that Faizal had been announced as information chief in December.

Faizal had succeeded Azmin Ali, who is now PN’s secretary-general. Radzi, meanwhile, was named to the coalition’s Supreme Council but not officially declared as Faizal’s successor. Both Radzi and Faizal are vice-presidents of Bersatu, adding another layer of intra-party sensitivity to the situation. The PN Supreme Council has not convened since February, leaving Radzi’s position unofficial for now. An official confirmation of the appointment is expected only after the council reconvenes and issues a formal letter.
