Malaysia’s National Unity Ministry Reports Racist Social Media Posts to Authorities

PETALING JAYA – The Malaysian national unity ministry has filed a complaint with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) over a racist and inflammatory statement posted on the social media platform X.

According to Bernama, National Unity Minister Aaron Ago Dagang expressed hope that authorities would take appropriate action against the individual responsible under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which prohibits the misuse of network facilities.

“We are committed to ensuring that the harmony and unity of Malaysians continue to be safeguarded. Any statements or actions that undermine unity and incite hatred are entirely unacceptable,” the minister stated in a post on his X account.

He further urged all users to exercise ethical responsibility on social media and refrain from actions that could incite racial or religious tensions. The complaint follows two controversial tweets posted by an X user on March 5 and March 26, which targeted the Indian community. The posts quickly went viral before being deleted.
