Malaysia to submit new high-speed rail proposal to Singapore after discussion: Anwar

The high-speed rail (HSR) line between Malaysia and Singapore is still a part of the conversation , says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Malaysian Prime Minister said Transport Minister Anthony Loke would highlight the thing to Singapore after a decision is taken. “It is still getting pondered about at our stage. As soon as we take a decision, Loke will liaise with his Singaporean counterpart,” he told the media after creating the Malaysia Commercialisation Year Summit 2023, on Friday.

On Thursday, Singapore’s Acting Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat conveyed they had not got any fresh offers from Malaysia for the HSR line. “Singapore is wanting to converse about any fresh offers for a Kuala Lumpur-Singapore HSR from Malaysia in good faith, beginning from a fresh slate,” Mr Chee said. Malaysia and Singapore inked bilateral approvals for the deal on Dec 13, 2016. The 350km railway line, which was having the goal to be accomplished in 2026, would bring down the travel time between both destinations to 90 minutes.
