Israeli Strikes Kill Eight Palestinians in Gaza

CAIRO – Israeli strikes killed at least eight Palestinians, including five police officers, in two separate attacks in the Gaza Strip on Nov 1, according to medics and the Hamas-run interior ministry.

Medics said three people were killed in an Israeli air strike in Gaza City, while the interior ministry said five police officers died in another strike in western Khan Younis, in southern Gaza. The Israeli military said it had struck several militants in Khan Younis but did not provide further details. It did not immediately comment on the Gaza City strike.

Israel says Hamas has been rearming and carrying out attacks in violation of a year-old ceasefire, and has intensified strikes on the group in recent weeks. Hamas denies the allegations and accuses Israel of undermining the Gaza peace agreement.

The US-brokered 2025 ceasefire envisages the eventual reconstruction of Gaza, but negotiations have stalled over Hamas’s disarmament and Israel’s withdrawal. Israeli forces currently control about two-thirds of the territory and have ordered residents out of those areas.

Nearly all of Gaza’s more than 2 million residents are living in the remaining third of the enclave, many in tents or damaged buildings amid widespread destruction. Gaza health officials say at least 1,500 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire began, while Israel reports four soldiers killed. Palestinian authorities say more than 74,000 people have died in Israel’s assault on Gaza, which began after Hamas-led fighters killed about 1,200 people in southern Israel on Oct 7, 2023.
