Khazanah-linked firm faces governance probe in Malaysia

KLANG — Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Aug. 20 that a company under sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional is being investigated over governance concerns, stressing that no one should be above scrutiny.

Anwar said the board decided to examine the matter after concerns were raised about a company established in 2012, and that the probe is meant to address any violations through proper channels rather than target individuals for past decisions.

He said the issue was about morality, values and the country’s future, and compared the possible long-term impact of poor management with past financial losses at Tabung Haji and Felda.

Reports identified the unit as Xeraya Capital, a wholly owned Khazanah subsidiary, and said Anwar instructed a forensic investigation to the highest standards of governance and due process.
