Teenager Sooryavanshi Hits Fastest List A Fifty in 11 Balls

DAMBULLA — India’s 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi set a new List A record on June 21 by reaching a half-century in just 11 balls, finishing 94 off 29 as India beat Sri Lanka A by 66 runs in the tri-nation final. Sooryavanshi struck 10 fours and eight sixes in a blistering innings that helped India post 377-9; Sri Lanka were dismissed for 311 in response.

Fresh from a dominant Indian Premier League season,  776 runs in 16 matches and a record 65 sixes,  Sooryavanshi said he stayed calm and focused on executing his plans. His IPL form also earned him both Most Valuable Player and Best Emerging Player awards. Named in India’s upcoming T20 squads for Ireland and England, he is on track to potentially become the youngest male to debut for India, edging toward Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record.
