Singapore’s final group of haj pilgrims returns home

SINGAPORE — About 300 Singaporean Muslim haj pilgrims arrived at Changi Airport Terminal 3 on June 8, completing the return of all travellers who made the pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia this year.

Acting Minister‑in‑charge of Muslim Affairs Faishal Ibrahim, who greeted families at the airport, said he was pleased to see reunions after journeys many had awaited for years and praised the pilgrims’ patience and care for one another. Faishal, Singapore’s Head of Delegation, visited pilgrims during key points of the haj in Mecca and met Saudi officials and other delegation leaders at the Grand Hajj Symposium in Jeddah.

The Singapore Pilgrims’ Affairs Office coordinated with medical teams, service providers and travel agents to support the pilgrims in Mecca and Medina, MUIS added in a statement on June 8. MUIS thanked Saudi authorities and local partners for their assistance and said it and SPAO will review the 2026 operations with the Association of Muslim Travel Agents Singapore to collect feedback and identify improvements for future seasons.

MUIS organised three direct flights between Saudi Arabia and Singapore for about 900 pilgrims this season; the first group returned on June 1. The haj, the fifth pillar of Islam, takes place each year during the month of Zulhijjah and concludes with Hari Raya Haji. Muslims who are physically and financially able are obligated to perform the haj at least once.
