ZURICH — Switzerland and France have finalized a military cooperation plan to secure the upcoming Group of 7 summit, Swiss authorities announced on Friday. The summit, scheduled for June 15-17, will be held in Evian-les-Bains on the French shore of Lake Geneva; the joint plan concentrates on protecting the lake area and the neighbouring airspace.
The move follows a Swiss army decision to deploy about 4,000 troops on Swiss soil during the summit to help implement “exceptional security measures” amid heightened global tensions, the government said. The arrangements aim to coordinate cross-border protection while accommodating the presence of G7 leaders and other visiting heads of state.
