Vingegaard Completes Career Grand Tour Sweep with Giro Victory

ROME — Jonas Vingegaard sealed the 2026 Giro d’Italia overall title on Sunday, becoming the eighth rider in history and the first Dane,  to win all three Grand Tours.

Racing the Giro for the first time with Visma–Lease a Bike, the 29-year-old effectively wrapped up the pink jersey on Saturday after a decisive attack on the Piancavallo climb in stage 20, stretching his lead to more than five minutes over Felix Gall. Vingegaard adds this Giro to two Tour de France victories and last year’s Vuelta a España success.

Frenchman Paul Magnier (Soudal Quick-Step), a three-stage winner, took the points classification, while Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) claimed the mountains jersey. Jonathan Milan thrilled the home crowd by winning the 131-km final stage in Rome with a late sprint.

The 3,459-km race began in Nessebar, Bulgaria, on May 8. Afonso Eulalio of Bahrain Victorious secured the young rider’s white jersey after finishing sixth overall; he had led the race for nine stages until Vingegaard seized control on stage 14. Vingegaard celebrated in Rome alongside teammates and family, describing the triumph as a lifelong dream. He now turns his focus to the Tour de France starting July 4, where he will pursue a third yellow jersey.
