Singapore PM Hails Thai Counterpart’s Rare Re-Election, Eyes Deeper Ties

SINGAPORE  – Prime Minister Lawrence Wong congratulated Thailand’s Anutin Charnvirakul on his re-appointment as premier Thursday, hailing the kingdom’s first comeback leader in two decades and pledging to strengthen the robust bilateral bond rooted in economic synergy, institutional ties, and people-to-people connections.

Anutin, who first took office in September 2025, secured re-election on March 19. In a letter released by Singapore’s Foreign Ministry, Wong expressed optimism that relations would thrive under Anutin’s renewed mandate.

The partnership has broadened into critical domains like food security, carbon credits, renewable energy, and healthy ageing, Wong noted. “As like-minded partners and neighbours, Singapore looks forward to continuing our close collaboration with Thailand,” he wrote.

Wong recalled Anutin’s November 2025 introductory visit to Singapore, where both nations deepened rice trade and geriatric care initiatives. “These reflect our shared commitment to tackle the common challenges brought about by climate change and an ageing society,” the prime minister added.

Echoing the message on Facebook Friday, Wong voiced eagerness to build on the solid foundation of Singapore-Thailand ties through hands-on cooperation ahead.
