Germany Pushes Diplomacy for Strait of Hormuz Security Amid Iran Strikes

BERLIN – Resolving security threats in the vital Strait of Hormuz demands diplomatic efforts alone, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul declared Thursday during a visit to Turkey.

“A lasting solution requires diplomacy, so we should unite our shared interests from the Gulf and our neighborhood,” Wadephul said. Iran’s response to U.S.-Israeli actions has involved ship attacks in the strait, halting nearly all non-Iranian traffic through this key artery for Middle East oil exports and prompting regional producers to slash output.

Speaking at a joint news conference with his Turkish counterpart, Wadephul urged collective action. “We must chart a path out of this war while sketching a future security framework for the region.”
