Fatal Crash Mars Chinese New Year on Malaysian Expressway

PETALING JAYA – A tragic road accident claimed a woman’s life and injured two others on Chinese New Year morning, casting a shadow over festivities in Malaysia.

The collision occurred on February 17 at KM443.2 of the North-South Expressway near Bukit Beruntung, Rawang, en route to Kuala Lumpur, involving two cars and a trailer lorry loaded with limestone powder. Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar reported the alert at 7:33 a.m., with 14 firefighters arriving eight minutes later to extricate victims.

A woman in her 50s, passenger in one car, was declared dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel; her fellow passenger, a man in his 50s driving that vehicle, sustained minor injuries. The lorry driver, a man in his 40s, suffered serious head trauma, while the second car’s driver, a man in his 30s, escaped unharmed. All injured parties received immediate medical attention from ministry teams.
