Greece-Israel Alliance: Joint Front Against Drones and Cyber Threats

ATHENS, GREECE – Greece and Israel pledged deeper military collaboration on anti-drone systems and cybersecurity during a high-level meeting in Athens on Tuesday, as Defence Ministers Nikos Dendias and Israel Katz underscored their shared resolve to counter emerging regional threats.

Dendias announced plans to exchange expertise on tackling drone swarms, unmanned aerial vehicles, and subsea drones, alongside joint efforts to intercept cyber attacks. The agreement builds on robust ties, including a Greek-based air training center, recent joint drills, and Greece’s €650 million purchase of Israeli PULS rocket systems, with ongoing talks for a €3 billion multi-layer air defense shield.

Katz emphasized a united stance against destabilizing forces using terror, aggression, or proxies in Syria, Gaza, and the Aegean Sea, implicitly targeting shared concerns like Turkey’s regional maneuvers. Neither minister named specific adversaries, but the pact signals heightened vigilance against drone proliferation and digital vulnerabilities.

This partnership reinforces the Eastern Mediterranean’s shifting security dynamics, enhancing deterrence through technology sharing and interoperability.
